Going Deep For Lionfish

In much of the Gulf of Mexico, lionfish have taken over the natural and artificial reefs. Their voracious appetite can devoid the natural population of the juvenile fish, lobster, shrimp and crab. An ongoing research project is to monitor and record lionfish acoustics in the field. Lionfish have been shown to make sounds when provoked. The primary question is, what do these sounds mean and can we somehow utilize these sounds to our benefit.
